Downs House: Planning Approved For Historic Horse Racing Site

RPS Design group can announce that planning permission has been secured on a site steeped in horse racing history.

Downs House itself is believed to date back to the 1780s and has had an illustrious racing history being the training yard for Eclipse, a thoroughbred from which 80% of today’s bloodstock is believed to be descended.

The yard which sits at the centre of Epsom Racecourse had since fallen into a state of disrepair having remained unused for many years.

RPS Design Group were commissioned to redesign the existing yard and worked closely with both the site owner and Jockey Club Estates to produce a scheme which would allow this historic racing site to be brought back into everyday use.

The redevelopment would provide stabling for up to 80 horses, including feed rooms and wash boxes, and a 250m all weather track.

Work is expected to begin on site in spring of next year, with completion estimated 2020
